Volunteer FAQ

Is there an age requirement?

Firefighters must be at least 18 years old to join the department. However, many of our volunteers involve their whole families in activities around the department and performing administrative duties.

Is this a paid position?

No, this is not a paid position. However, we provide training and teach essential skills that can carry over into a variety of careers.

How often do I have to volunteer?

Volunteers are asked to dedicate as much time as they can. We have plenty of volunteer opportunities that have flexibility with scheduling. As a firefighting volunteer, you are required to attend two training sessions per quarter to remain in good standing.

Is training/equipment included?

Yes! All of our training is at no cost to the volunteer. We also host several training sessions in collaboration with the University of Missouri’s Rescue and Training Institute where volunteers will learn new life-saving techniques free of charge.

We also provide high-quality equipment to all of our volunteers throughout training and beyond. Tools recently added to our equipment collection include state-of-the-art auto extrication equipment, personal protective equipment, brand new self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), and new trucks.

“Volunteer firefighting is the best job you will have that you will not be paid to do.
